Green tea grade codes are a fast way to discuss a familiar trade style. They are not a complete specification and should not be treated as a universal guarantee that every supplier's tea will be identical.
What a code can tell you
A code helps identify the expected commercial family and general position. For example, Chunmee and Gunpowder each have recognised sequences used in export trade. The code narrows the search, but it does not fully define colour, particle distribution, stalk, powder, cup strength or residue limits.
The four-part purchasing control
- Trade code: establishes the product reference.
- Approved sample: shows the accepted dry leaf, liquor and infused leaf.
- Written specification: records physical, chemical, packing and destination requirements.
- Contract and lot check: defines acceptance and pre-shipment release.
