Chunmee and Gunpowder are two established Chinese green tea trade styles. Both can serve high-volume wholesale markets, but their appearance, sorting logic and buyer expectations are different.
The practical difference
Chunmee is recognised by its eyebrow-like, twisted leaf. Importers usually compare tightness, fineness, colour, stalk, powder, aroma and briskness. Gunpowder is rolled into compact pellets, so pellet size, roundness, density, uniformity and opening during infusion become important.
Do not compare codes alone
Codes such as Chunmee 41022 or Gunpowder 3505 are useful commercial references, but products carrying the same code can differ by origin, season, factory sorting and target market. Compare dry leaf, liquor and infused leaf under the same brewing method, then seal an approved sample.
Which one should an importer choose?
- Choose Chunmee tea when the market recognises eyebrow-shaped leaf and expects a brisk traditional cup.
- Choose Gunpowder tea when compact pellets, strong brewing and familiar North African or Middle Eastern presentation are important.
- Request both when you are building a multi-grade wholesale range or comparing landed cost.
